The following attendees had a little something to say about the President's Run: Rex Wilhoite - While on the President's Run, we made a stop in Chloride, AZ on the return trip home. Chloride is about 20 miles north of Kingman and east off US 93. We had a great lunch at the Yesterday's Restaurant where the food was great and they have one of the largest selections of beer that I've seen in some time. An attempt was made to get to the petroglyphs both by foot and a four wheel drive without success due to the snow. This would make a good one day Saturday event for lunch and a tour of the petroglyphs. Dennis Ledwon - What a fabulous weekend that started at President Sherrie's Party Pad. She put out a spread that included pizza, pasta, bread sticks, wine, rum punch, sodas, specialty beers, pretzels, chips & dips, and all kinds of candies for our sweet tooth. There where prizes galore. The Party Pad was open 24 hours all weekend long. Thank you Sherrie for such a marvelous President's Run. How is Sherrie going to top this for next year? Carl
Hastings - Judy and I really enjoyed the welcome party. You and Darrell went
all out in providing refreshments and raffle prizes; and it gave us a great opportunity
for relaxed socializing. I really enjoyed the poker tournament. It was my first
exposure to that kind of environment. The dealers were very helpful and patient.
The fact that I came in 4th and received a payout greater than my buy-in may have
had a little to do with the fun I had. I think we had so much fun that we should
consider it as an added activity at Corvette Roulette. Jimmy Cavallo - One of the best parts of the trip to Oatman was just getting to the town itself. First you had to navigate through the Burros at the beginning of town. They seemed as interested in you as you did of them. The town did not fail in delivering also, from the Hotel where we had lunch to the great shops throughout the town all was enjoyable and knowledgeable. Even the cowboy show was timely and fun. Loved the trip and hope to make it back there again. Although the weather was not as co-operative as wanted, our spirits and enjoyment were. The total weekend package was great from the trips to the lunches and dinner to the show and karaoke bars all of it was great. Larry & Irene Duis - This was our first President's road run in quite awhile and it was exciting to get the cobwebs off the Vette and take it out of the valley. Our heavy retirement schedule : only allowed Saturday and Sunday but our bodies couldn't have taken much more. The party room was excellent with more than enough to eat and drink by far. We attended The Oak Ridge Boys and The Blues Brothers. If that wasn't enough entertainment, President Sherrie led some fellow LVCA'ers in a karaoke version of Bad To The Bone which was classic. A good time was had by us for certain. Steve & Jan Tucker - Route 66, ghost towns, The Blues Brothers and big buffets. Wow! Thanks Sherrie and Darrell for a great long weekend. Pat & Nita Russell - Great event - The hotel was excellent - Going to Chloride on the way back was especially nice because of it not being the typical "tourist trap", plus the lunch there was great. John Finkowski - Who knew that there was that much going on in Laughlin? What a fun and organized President's Run - including President's Day, no less. Besides the hospitality suite, where everyone won a prize, ate, drank, and socialized, there were many other fun things. Three highlights for me were the trip to Oatman, The Blues Brothers Tribute Band, and crazy bowling. Oatman is an old gold mining town in Arizona, with donkey's roaming the street. We ate at the Oatman Hotel, where LVCA now has a custom dollar bill hanging from the tassels of the stage there. Just after I ate my Buffalo burger, a cowboy gunfight was staged in the streets. The Blues Brothers Tribute band did three sets of fun music and comedy. Jake fell off the stage, but still managed to announce that LVCA was in the house. Rawhide, Soul Man and who could forget Rubber Biscuit? Crazy bowling was crazy! Regular bowling is tough enough - try it and see. But crazy bowling? Like bowling backwards, or with a pirate eye patch, or bowling between your legs, or bowling with your other hand, etc. It was so crazy that it made us want to drink - like we really needed an excuse. Speaking of that, Lennard G is very competitive in everything he does, like car cleaning, bowling and drinking. You'll have to ask him for further details, however. Yes, it rained and hailed twice, and the main road was all tore up, but that did not matter. It was a whole lot of LVCA fun. Thank you, President Sherrie Wood! Janice & Jim Gregorius - We had the royal treatment with your great Welcome Party. Wow, what a spectacular view of the River from your room and to top it off, you offered food and drinks to our hearts desire along with sharing conversations and laughs with such great club members. We loved it and "No, we didn't have an actual hand in the short sheeting of your bed". Thanks for a memorable President's Run. Brenda Cavallo - As we gathered for our driving meeting, Sherrie gave us our rally sheets which consisted of questions for finding out the history of Oatman. We left the hotel under sunny skies but yet cool temperatures. The snow on the mountains was delightful to see. Our caravan consisted of approximately 10 - 12 Vettes and a couple of us in our Non-Vettes. It is always a joy to see the faces of people who see us with the finger pointing at us and the smiles coming from the cars. As we approached Oatman we were greeted by the cities mascots, the donkey. They had us stopped as they were looking in the windows and waiting to be handed carrots. I myself had never seen a white donkey before. As they finally let us pass we pulled into Oatman and were transported back into the Old West. We had lunch in the old hotel restaurant along with a real cowboy serenading us during our lunch. After lunch we had over an hour to wonder around, read about the history, fill out our rally sheets and of course - shop. There was an old west gun fight on main street, donkeys walking around and the people working in the shops were full of old stories on the town. Before we knew it, it was time to gather and turn in our rally sheets, and then it was back to the reality of Laughlin. I had a great time and totally enjoyed our time in the Old West town of Oatman, Arizona. Cathy Wilson - From our seats right next to the stage, we could see that The Oak Ridge Boys still have it. They still energetically jumped around the stage and still hit all the low notes! They sang all of their hits, including, of course, Elvira. It was a great concert at Laughlin prices. Carol Gagliardi - The Welcome Party was awesome and we had a beautiful view of the river. All you had to do was open your hotel room door and look down the hall to see if the LVCA hospitality suite was open--and it was open all weekend. There was more food than we could eat all weekend including PILES of pizza boxes, 2 kinds of pasta dishes, breadsticks, chips, pretzels and a veggie platter. A separate table was full of candy and cookies. The bar was heavily stocked with any kind of alcohol you could imagine, including one of Sherrie's famous custom rum drinks. Beer, sodas, and water--we couldn't finish everything all weekend. Sherrie's logo was everywhere including on our gift bags, the 2 shot glasses we were given, our clipboards and all of the raffle prizes (there were so many of them). While some members left to participate in a poker tournament, others thought it was a perfect opportunity to short sheet the Wood's bed. Both the Wood's and Colvin's returned to their rooms, which adjoined the hospitality suite, to find their toilets full of empty cans and piled up with pizza boxes. And their (hidden) clock radios were supposed to go off in the middle of the night. The Welcome Party was a wonderful start to a great weekend. Hersh & Karin Wilhoite - Even tho we were in Laughlin for only a short time - it was a blast! Your hard work and planning played off - Mother Nature just has her own agenda.......The Hospitality Suite was awesome; you definitely had everything under control. We had SOOOOOOO much fun at the BluezBrothers....We only regret that the band did not know enough of "Bad to the Bone" to play. The Aquarius was very nice - we would definitely stay there again! Congratulations on a great weekend outing, in spite of the weather. Sharron Grodzinsky - The last hold outs and most adventurous of the group on the President's run went to the Hoover Dam Bridge walk. This structure is simply a wonder of manmade engineering. The bypass took nine years to complete and has been named the Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. The pedestrian walk is beside the automobile passage and allows you views not seen from anywhere else of the Hoover Dam. It can give you a sense of awe as well as a sense of impending vertigo. To reach the bypass, we ascended rather steep stairs, but it is also handicap accessible with a wide ramp all the way up to the top. As you reach the top you will find many plaques describing the process of building the structure, the natural foliage and wildlife and the structure it's self. It was well worth the trip and we really enjoyed the magnificence of the structure and the unparalleled view. Just make sure you visit a restroom before you make the trip as there are only porta potties in the rather small parking lot! Ken Ackeret & Kathy Clapp - Being the winners of the poker rally with 4 deuces made it easy for us to say we had a great time. In spite of everyone else's unlucky card draws and the weather….we believe the LVCA members who drove from Laughlin to Kingman had a wonderful experience. Maybe next year we will make it to the Grand Canyon Caverns. Our Corvettes just do not like 3 inches of snow. At least LVCA 36 is not the only president who had snow on their Prez Run. The crazing bowling was really crazy and lots of fun too. We want to congratulate Sherrie on all her organizational skills for the weekend. We know she spent a lot of time planning this event and it showed. Thank you, Sherrie and Darrell. This weekend was a great, fun event! Vickie Colvin - Wow, what a great event. We had such a great time on the Presidents run, but I guess my most favorite thing we did (and we did a lot) was the crazy bowling. It was all so challenging, especially for us old people. We hopped and spun around 5 times and bowled backwards, wore an eye patch and threw the ball through some ones legs. But no one gave up. We just laughed and laughed at ourselves and each other. The second game we just bowled regular and we all got just about the same score as we did in the crazy bowling. So that's what happens when you haven't bowled for 20 years. We came home exhausted but it was all well worth it. Thanks Sherrie and Darrell for all your hard work and for putting on such a great event. Ed & Karan Anderson - We enjoyed the Saturday run to the museum in Kingman and the lunch at Mr. D's. Wish we could've seen the caves, but Corvettes don't do too well with snow. We had fun being together with lots of friends. |
