Fall Colors Run to Mt Charleston - October 10, 2010

Eighteen members and four guests meet at the Santa Fe station at 9:00am. Our guests were from Australia and are visiting the states for a month. It turned out to be a beautiful day! Nine Corvettes and one Ford pulled out of the parking lot at around 9:15 and headed north on 95.

We drove to exit 94 and turned left to Lee Canyon. We had a scavenger hunt for the activity for the day. The items for the hunt were all things that could be found at the various stops we would make along the way. Our first stop for the hunt was Sawmill Trailhead. It was cooler here than in Vegas, but not to cold. After this stop, we took the cut off to Mt. Charleston and drove through Kyle Canyon. Our next stop was at Deer Creek Trailhead. Members had fun looking for items and visiting. From here, we drove to Cathedral Rock Trailhead for a very brief stop, due to lack of parking.

After turning around at the top of the mountain, we headed back down the mountain and stopped at the Spring Mountain Visitor's Center. Some of us shopped in the gift shop. We then went to the Mt. Charleston Resort for lunch. The food was fantastic, the setting gorgeous and we got to see a wedding! Prizes were awarded for the scavenger hunt. First place went to Ken and Terry Rees, I'm sure they will enjoy racing their radio controlled Corvette. Second place went to the team of Cathy Wilson and Pat Ackrett, who received a model of the transformer Corvette. Third place went to Bill and Kim McCord, they received a Hot Wheels Corvette. An honorable mention goes to new members Sandy and Frank Lewis for fourth place. We also enjoyed getting to know Linda and Stewart Marlof, this was their third event. Our guests from Australia, Christine and Chris, got the booby prize for driving a Ford rental car to our event. The other couple from Australia were Jan and Wayne. Everyone had a wonderful day driving our beautiful Corvettes!

Proceeds from this event went to the Spring Mountain Conservation and each member received a community service point. Thank you all for sharing the day with us.
