Day 13

E-mail log entry:
17 Mar, Wed - Last travel day.  Hunter Valley for lunch.  That's like Napa
Valley, wine country.  Stayed in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.

17 March 2004, Wednesday

We had breakfast served at the hotel under a carport - cereals and toast.  A friend of the hotel owners came by with a '91 Corvette and his wife drove a '95 Trans Am, both dark green.  There were going to be two Corvettes, but the other Vette owner couldn't make it.  After we loaded up on the coach, we followed the car owner to his house to check out his other classic cars.  I'm not sure how many cars he had, but it was over ten!

We went to the Hunter Valley for lunch.  This was a place where someone had heard about some gardens.  It was in the wine country.  We had reservations at Harrington's Irish Pub.  They set out a buffet for us.  The food was good, but there wasn't enough to go around.  Some folks took more than their fair share, so others weren't very happy.  I think they figured more food would be brought out like at a Vegas buffet, but it wasn't.  Then we found out that the Hunter Valley Gardens were a short way up the street, so we coached there.  We left some of our party behind wine tasting.  Once we got to the gardens, we found out that it was still a bit of a walk away.  Some of our group found another wine tasting here, while a couple of our group trotted over to the garden.  They reported over the radio that it cost $15 each.  Since we only had 20 minutes, we decided to bail on that.  So we hit the gift shop instead.  After going back to pick up the rest of our group, we headed out of wine country.

We made a quick stop at Colo Heights.

We arrived at the Sky Rider Motor Inn in Katoomba for the night.  We walked into town and split up for dinner.  I ate at an Italian restaurant that didn't serve alcohol.  There were only a handful of us there.  I stopped at a place that had Internet access on the way back to the hotel to check e-mail.  Watched "Matchstick Man" at the hotel.
